GEWA music was founded in 1925 by Georg Walther in Adorf, Vogtland. Georg Walther and a small team of musical instrument makers from the region concentrated on the production and distribution of musical instruments, which were made in their own workshops but also in smaller manufactories in the Vogtland.

In addition to violin and guitar making, the Vogtland has a centuries-old tradition of making wind instruments. Based on this tradition, GEWA music was able to offer instruments made by smaller manufacturers from the Vogtland region throughout Europe at an early stage. At the beginning of the 1990s, GEWA began to develop instruments made in Asia. GEWA instrument makers based in Adorf, Vogtland (various practicing European musicians and teachers, specialised in individual wind instruments), developed the meanwhile world-famous range "ROY BENSON", which covers the needs of beginners and advanced players in the best possible way. Today, instruments from this product line can be found on all continents; the instruments are highly regarded, especially in schools and in the amateur sector.
